Digital Conversion Q&A
 |
If your TV looks like this, you probably need to upgrade! |
At midnight on February 17, 2009, all full-power television stations in the United States will stop broadcasting in analog and switch to 100% digital broadcasting. Digital broadcasting promises to provide a clearer picture and more programming options and will free up airwaves for use by emergency responders.
Here's what you need to know about the digital age and converter boxes, from Ken Jones:
Question: Will I be able to use my old analog TV in Feb. 2009?
Answer: Only if you get your TV signal from cable or satellite.
Question: Do I need a converter box?
Answer: Only if you use rabbit ears or an outside antenna. Ken's will be selling the converter boxes beginning in March.
Question: Why should I buy a new HDTV from Ken's, if my old TV works with cable or satellite?
Answer: Because you will have black lines at the top and bottom of your screen, since most programs will be broadcast in widescreen and not the square format that has been around over 50 years.
Question: Why should I buy from Ken's, rather than the other guys?
Answer: Ken's is family owned, and is the only HDTV dealer...with authorized HDTV repair services! Ken's was voted...#1 Best in Business Award in 2007, and we are the only area electronic stores that belong to the B.B.B.!!!
Question: What do I do with my old TV?
Answer: If you buy at Ken's, we will donate your old set to the Macon Rescue Mission, which can be "tax deductible" for you. This is a very great cause that houses abused women, abused children and men with addiction problems.

Note: Congress created the TV Converter Box Coupon Program for households wishing to keep using their analog TV sets after February 17, 2009. The Program allows U.S. households to obtain up to two coupons, each worth $40, that can be applied toward the cost of eligible converter boxes. Click here to apply for your coupons.
